  • Dawn Nolte

    DVM

    Dr. Dawn Nolte is a 2005 Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgery. She graduated from Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998 and then completed a rotating internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in Oradell, NJ. Her surgical training included a surgical internship at Dallas Veterinary Surgery Center, a small animal surgical residency at The Animal Medical Center in Manhattan, and a surgical fellowship also at The Animal Medical Center. Dr. Nolte is proficient in soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, and neurosurgery. Her research and clinical interests include oncologic/reconstructive surgery, fracture management and minimally invasive surgery, specifically laparoscopy and thoracoscopy.

  • Heather Galano

    Dr. Heather Galano is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology/Neurosurgery). Prior to attending veterinary school she took one year off after college to travel to Australia and New Zealand. She obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1999. She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine at the University of Georgia and a fellowship at the Veterinary Neurological Center in Phoenix, and a residency in neurology/neurosurgery at North Carolina State University in 2005. She then went to California to work in a private practice with three other neurologists. After 2 years of missing the East Coast she returned and moved to Westport, CT. Dr. Galano has a yellow Lab named Bodie, who is her best friend. She loves the outdoors, spending the time on the beach, hiking, running, and cooking. She also loves to travel.

  • Anthony Acquaviva

    Dr. Acquaviva graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Upon graduation, he completed a one-year rotating internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital followed by a one-year surgical internship at Veterinary Specialty Center of Delaware. Dr. Acquaviva continued his surgical training by completing a surgical residency at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. He is a board certified veterinary surgeon. Dr. Acquaviva is proficient in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. He has published research investigating the use of locking plates for bone fractures. Dr. Acquaviva's clinical interests include tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO), tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA) surgery, fracture management, arthroscopy, neurosurgery, and minimally invasive soft tissue surgery.

  • Celeste Wells

    Dr. Celeste Wells obtained her veterinary degree from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. She subsequently completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, CT in 2003. Dr. Wells then went on to practice general small animal medicine for over 7 years before returning to work as a staff emergency clinician at VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center. Dr. Wells' professional interests include toxicology, preventive medicine, and helping animal guardians to understand their animals' health conditions. When not working, Dr. Wells enjoys gardening, being outsmarted by her small boys, and time with her family which includes multiple pets.

  • Lauren Pinchbeck

    Dr. Pinchbeck graduated from Princeton University and earned a DVM from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. After a small animal medicine and surgery internship in Norwalk, CT she completed a dermatology residency at Ohio State in 2006 to become a member of the American College of Veterinary Dermatologists. Dr. Pinchbeck is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American College of Veterinary Dermatology and received the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians Resident Award in 2007. In addition to her research interest in staph infections in dogs, her clinical interests extend to the diagnosis and treatment of middle ear infections, autoimmune diseases and canine atopic dermatitis.

  • Shelley Smith

    DVM

    Dr. Shelley Smith was raised in Baltimore, MD and graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Dr. Smith then moved to Boston, MA where she completed a one year rotating internship at Angell Animal Medical Center. She joined the VCA team in July 2008 and completed her emergency and critical care internship and residency at VCA Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg, MD. After becoming board certified in emergency and critical care, she moved to Connecticut to join the VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center team in September of 2012. During her specialty internship Shelley published a manuscript titled Spontaneous Pneumothorax in Standards of Care: Emergency and Critical Care Medicine. For her residency, she published a state of the art review article for the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care titled Measurement of Intra-abdominal Pressure in Dogs and Cats.�.

  • Alice Benedict

    DVM

    Dr. Alice Benedict graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Following graduation she did a one year Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, Connecticut. Dr. Benedict completed a two year Residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the New York College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 2007. She has lived in Massachusetts and New Hampshire since then and recently joined the staff at VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center. Dr. Benedict has a special interest in renal, hepatic and gastrointestinal diseases. Dr. Benedict enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, dog (Jelly Bean) and two cats (Orono and Croi). She grew up in Connecticut and is happy to be back and closer to her extended family.

  • April Durtschi

    DVM

    Originally from the desert southwest, Dr. Durtschi graduated from the University of Arizona magna cum laude in microbiology and completed vet school cum laude from Colorado State University in 2002. Following an internship at the Animal Medical Center of New York, Dr. Dutrschi worked in emergency and general medicine at VCA Sacramento Animal Medical Group while volunteering at University of California Davis department of cardiology. She went on to complete post graduate research and fellowship at the University of Missouri in gender cardiac and electrophysiology. She was accepted to the University of Tennessee for a cardiology residency and successfully completed her residency and credentials for cardiology specialty. She has received ACVIM board certification in cardiology. She is excited to be a member of the VCA veterinary specialty hospitals. Her interests include feline cardiology, cardiac nutrition, and electrophysiology. Dr. Durtschi joins our future minimally invasive radiology team to provide solutions for cardiac arrhythmias, pacemaker therapy, airway disorders, vascular and chemoembolization therapies, and some congential cardiac repairs. Current services include heart failure hospitalization and management, electrocardiology, telemetry, holter monitoring, echocardiology and thoracic ultrasound, and digitial radiography. Pre-anesthetic, chemotherapy and feline cardiac screenings are offered for your veterinarian to help guide and manage cardiac safety.
